The Southeastern Conference is compiled of 14 universities as far north as Columbia, Missouri, and as far south as Gainesville, Florida. This conference is arguably the most competitive in the division one sports world. With that being said, the SEC Baseball Tournament is one of the most anticipated collegiate events of the year.
For the 21st year in a row, the tournament will be held at the Hoover Met Complex. In today’s blog, we review the history of the tournament and why Hoover, Alabama, calls it a tradition.
SEC Tournament History
The baseball tournament features 12 teams and will begin on May 22nd, 2019. This tournament is historically formatted differently than a regular competition. Depending on what your team is seeded going into the tournament, it will determine a single-elimination or double-elimination format. The championship game will be the 17th game played in 6 days. Currently, 7 of the top 25 teams in college baseball are in the SEC, intensifying the competitive edge at the Hoover Met Complex.
Keeping the Tournament in Hoover
A bid needs to be placed by the sports complex to host any major sporting event.
